35. Deodar Cedar

Native to the western Himalaya, Deodar Cedar is planted as an ornamental in the South for its strong architectural form. Old specimens such as the huge ones in Aiken's Hopelands Gardens develop an attractive, yet irregular, multi-trunked nature. In its native regions, the timber is prized for its durability and size. Deodar Cedar is related to the fabled Cedar-of-Lebanon (Cedrus libani), which is mentioned in the Bible.
