20. Sand Post Oak

Also known as Margaret’s Oak, this tree is common in our local sandhills and in similar soils elsewhere in the South. It is one of the oaks referred to as scrub oak and while often seen as a small irregular tree, it can develop into a medium size tree as seen in a number of Aiken’s parkways. The related Post Oak, also common in Aiken (see #17) is a large tree with leaves somewhat cross shaped.
